FAQ'S & INFO

What is a Color Blast (paint run)?

-The Color Blast is a 5K fun run/walk/jog/stroll that showers participants in environmentally safe, cornstarch-based colored powder at certain locations along the trail. The main idea is to tie-dye each runner’s white event T-shirt by the end of the run. The event welcomes competitive runners, casual runners, joggers, walkers, people with disabilities, families, and all those who are willing to give back to their community.  Sorry, no pets.

Do I need to be a serious runner to participate?

-No way! This is for everyone: runners, walkers, joggers, speed walkers, backwards walkers, skippers, moonwalkers, and “prancercisers”. Run/walk however you like as long as you’re having a blast! Even if you have not been training, this is a great way to get off the couch and enjoy the Greenway Trail with friends, family, and fellow community members!

What about kids and strollers?

-It is our experience that kids can run all day, so as long as children under 12 are accompanied by an adult, kids are encouraged to do it too! Strollers are welcome as well as long as the wheels can handle gravel. Please be aware that strollers will get some powder color paint on them as well. You might want to cover the stroller with a plastic bag OR you can get a white blanket for coverage and make a tie-dyed blanket! No bikes please!!

Dogs? Pets?

-Unfortunately, dogs and other pets will not be permitted. Sorry.

How is the color "thrown"?

-The color will be thrown by hand. It is a powder - not liquid. Volunteers will be trained not to aim for the face!

Will the color wreck or stain my clothes?

-We recommend that you fully expect to get quite a bit of color on your clothing. It is Holi Powder from India. It is cornstarch based combined with crushed flowers and natural ingredients. It is very fragrant and vibrant in color. Because it is a powder, a lot of it can be somewhat dusted off, but please remember that it is paint. It is water based and water washable, so your skin will clean nicely, but clothing may keep a hint of color. In other words, don't where your best Sunday suit and shoes to our race! Dress comfortably and wear shoes that your feet will be happy in. But- if you want to keep the color on your t-shirt, simply spray your shirt with vinegar, and iron it. Then when washed, the color should stay.

How does the color affect the inside of cars?

-Bring a beach towel or plastic bag to sit on in the car just in case. Baby wipes or a wet washcloth will help remove loose powder from your skin and face.

Is the run timed?

-This is a fun run - not a timed race. Competitive runners are more than welcome to time themselves with a wristwatch. All runners/walkers, whether first or last will be cheered on just the same!

What else can I expect at this event?

  • Free Photo Booth!

We know you want to remember all the fun and excitement you’re going to have at the Color Blast 5K and that is why we will have a fun photo booth to capture all of your colorful moments! Take before and after pictures, show off your colorful face, add extra character with our fun props, and share why you run! All photos will be free and uploaded to the Hospitality House and Welcome Home Thriftique Facebook pages so you can tag yourself and show everyone how fun it is to be color blasted.

  • Face Painting!

You can never have enough color on you! Add a fabulous design to match your colorful appearance at the face paint booth. Donations are welcome (suggested donation of $3) and there will be a ton of options to choose from!

  • Finish Line Celebration!

The finish line celebration (and dance party!) is about YOU! We would like to take this time to thank you for all of your support for these two great causes by showering you one last time with color! This happens at the end of the event when all participants have finished and any powder paint left over is distributed in buckets in the designated area. Anyone wanting to be involved will be completely covered in color within minutes. Get ready! You do not want to miss out.

  • That’s not all!

Enjoy water and fruit provided by Ingles Markets, good music, and family fun.
